HOMEMADE LOFI PSYCH --- WHERE TO START?

"There is so much great music here..." WHERE TO START???

I recommend to
start with the HLFP-Samplers (especially HLFP 04).
Here you will come to know many of the bands/musicians featured in this blog. If you like what you hear, you may check out more of their music later on.
(You may also click on the picture on the sidebar and you will find the original post with download links.)

There is also a "FOCUS ON..." section. Here you will find albums that imo are absolutely great (***** = "five-stars-recordings") and that are essential listening and strongly recommended for download.

I TRY to RE-UP some stuff that has been down from time to

time, but I still don't have enough time to

listen to/post much new stuff.

Sorry!

Tyler Parkford - Killer Jist (USA 2009)

TYLER PARKFORD describes his music as 'Baroque/Chamber psych-bedroom-pop' or 'micro-fidelity bedroom psych-freak-beat-pop' and listening to "Killer Jist", his second home-brewed album, you will surely agree that this is a pretty good decription... I hear a clear THE BEATLES (Revolver/Sgt. Pepper era) and late BEACH BOYS/BRIAN WILSON influence and that surely isn't a bad thing!
"Killer Jist" is a very uplifting and very promising album with catchy melodies and good arrangements! Recommended!

Q: Where exactly are you from?
A:
Long Beach, California.
Q: How recorded? (At home/equipment...)?
A:
Recorded with old mics from 1970's portable reel-to-reel recorders, dumped and ground into Garage Band.
Q: Who involved? Who played what?
A: I wrote, performed, and recorded everything, with the exception of the violin parts on Vacancy, which was performed by this kid Dan Orf.

Q: Any official releases? If so, label, record nr.?
A: No official releases, though side band MINI MANSIONS has an EP on iTunes that's up for grabs (from Avatar, an online publisher).
Q: Since when are you into music?
A: Since I quit piano in 8th grade.
Q: Any previous bands?
A: Only odd-ball punk bands in boarding school (The Mess / Romulus)
Q: How'd you "label" your music?
A:
Baroque/Chamber psych-bedroom-pop.
Q: Influences?
A:
R. Stevie Moore. (Home taping pioneer and DIY musician; read info from wikipedia here!)
Q: Website, myspace?
A: http://www.myspace.com/tylerparkford
Q: Anything that you think is interesting, that you'd like to inform the blog readers about...
A:
Home-recording, to me, is like dancing with myself in a small cheap room, but I know there's a room outside.

Enjoy!

Something is wrong with track 14. When extracting it, it doesn't create it.

I didn't notice the slash in the title of tr 14. Some PCs seem to have trouble unzipping, if there is a slash. Changed it and uploaded tr 14.
Thanks for telling.
Enjoy the music!

I love this album! It's like Lou Barlow and Brian Wilson hanging out with a bong and a Tascam - and as goofy a description as that is, tell me you wouldn't love to hear such a thing occur. Until that day, "Killer Jist" will do very nicely indeed. Haunting melodies and sophisticated arrangements given added character by innovative lo-fi technique. Seriously, I love this album!

Approved! This is a great sound. He should put his stuff up on Last.fm so I'm not the only one scrobbling it ;)

This is my album of the year. Minimalist in instrumentation but rich in harmony, melodically immediate and lyrically impressionistic, this is a great album that needs no qualification and can only thrive in the intimate warmth of low budget low fidelity. Despite the echoes of Brian Wilson, John Lennon and even a dash of Marc Bolan, Tyler Parkford ultimately sounds like nobody but himself. And it's free!
