DETECTIVES SALVAJES is an experimental indie punk band from Costa Rica.
Some of their music reminds me of THE FEELIES, other songs are quite difficult to categorize (e.g. Los Suicidas). Very powerful and inventive.

"The ep was self-produced in a communal house we're renting with other two bands. It's inspired by the "Infrarrealista" movement, a bunch of underground mexican and latinoamerican poets that were also kind of street hustlers. Cairos Papasquiaro, the name of the EP, is dedicated to the best of them all, Mario Santiago Papasquiaro. Cairos is a way of refering to a "divine moment in time" (kayros). That concept is very close to the original idea of what we wanted the band to be.
- We've been playing in other bands for a long time (15 years for me) and we were pretty much tired of the way bands do things here, so we decided to come up with a record in 2 weeks, 1 song per rehearsal, complete with lyrics and recorded live in 2 days in our rehersal space / house.
- We're also trying to do our own interpretation as latinoamerican people of what we think punk and garage and lo-fi should be. Sort of a third-world lo fi, I guess.
- We're not trying to be pretentous of course, we're just assuming this project as a whole. We try to send that same vibe with the cover art (sort of a methaphor of a dirty dirty sidewalk in my mind), we normally don't charge for shows and try to be all-ages." (Adrian)
Q: Where exactly are you from?
A: We're based in San Jose, Costa Rica. The drummer's parents are argentinian. The core of the band is me and him, but we got a friend that helps out with samples and effects live.
Q: Do you want your real names mentioned? If so: What are your real names?
A: Adrian and Louie is good enough
Q: How recorded?
A: Recorded at an old wooden house we're renting along with 2 other bands, some of it was done on a cheap Fostex 4 track, some of it on the computer or with the sampler.

A: November 2009. In the course of about 2 and a half weeks
Q: Who involved? Who played what?
A:

- Luis Imbach (drums - vocals - sampler)
Alejandro Imbach and Esteban Rodriguez - extra vocals on Los Suicidas and recording engineers.
Q: Any more releases? Any "official" releases?
A: First release, no "official" release, that's just not how it works in Costa Rica yet. We're planning to release the next one in a couple of months (july probably).
Q: Since when does this band/project exist?
A: This is pretty new, we exist since october 2009 i think, but i've been playing in bands for approx. 15 years now. (we're part of generation '95 as we call it) The drummer's been playing for about 8 years i think. Most of those with me.
Q: Any previous bands worth mentioning?
A: We actually still play with our friends in a band called Continental.
Q: How'd you "label" your music? (I know... nobody wants to get labeled... bla bla bla...)
A: Third World Lo Fi? Ambient Punk? Garage Marching Band? "Experimental" is good enough too.
Q: Influences? Do I hear a FEELIES influence or is that by chance?
A: Never thought about it but we do like The Feelies a lot, maybe some of that filtered in the music. It's curious you should say so too, cause we do have this song that is got an intentional Feelies vibe, but we haven't recorded it yet. Other stuff we like: Skip James, Mississippi John Hurt, Modern Lovers, Television, Joe Meek, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Congelador (Chile), GSY!BE, Galaxie 500, Mano Negra, The Clash, Marching Bands everywhere, John Cage.
Q: Anything that you think is interesting, that you'd like to inform the blog readers about...
A: Its ok, enough about ourselves. Sometimes it's better when it's more about the music.
