HOMEMADE LOFI PSYCH --- WHERE TO START?

"There is so much great music here..." WHERE TO START???

I recommend to
start with the HLFP-Samplers (especially HLFP 04).
Here you will come to know many of the bands/musicians featured in this blog. If you like what you hear, you may check out more of their music later on.
(You may also click on the picture on the sidebar and you will find the original post with download links.)

There is also a "FOCUS ON..." section. Here you will find albums that imo are absolutely great (***** = "five-stars-recordings") and that are essential listening and strongly recommended for download.

I TRY to RE-UP some stuff that has been down from time to

time, but I still don't have enough time to

listen to/post much new stuff.

Sorry!

Flowers of Disgust - Too Cold; Car Won't Start! (USA 2006)

Part 3 of my little upload series about the FLOWERS OF DISGUST.

"'Too Cold; Car Won't Start!' is the most recent of our albums with actual music on it (the most recent release, 'Caveman Surfs Ice Age' is 100% structure-free noise concept album loosely based on Kurzweil's 'Second Half of the Chessboard' theory) and I think is a nice balance between songwriting and noise. Songs fade in and out amidst an overarching noisescape. Contains the hit jam 'Deepest Sympathies (Sorry Your Horse Died on Christmas)' etc." (Danny G.)

B.t.w.: The FLOWERS OF DISGUST are, as you might have guessed, from Shawnee Mission, KS (not Mexican Hat). If you like what you hear you may go to the Cat o' Nine Tails Media page and download some more of their stuff for free! Enjoy!

Flowers of Disgust - ButtHouse (USA 1998)

The 2nd FLOWERS OF DISGUST post:

"'ButtHouse' is our classic 'concept' record in that all songs blend together and the album tells the somewhat psychadelic story of Mark Beard, whose house is burned to the ground by evil monkeys, sending Mark on a spiralling metaphysical and spiritual journey to ButtHouse, where he meets, among other characters, The Scab-Eat Woman and a giant talking rabbit wearing a top-hat, after which he must shape-shift in order to confront The ButtMaster in order to escape ButtHouse. OR IS IT ALL IN HIS MIND??? Some say it's our best work." (Danny Gibson)

Flowers of Disgust - The Giraffe in Paris (USA 2002)

From Mexican Hat, Utah, USA, come the FLOWERS OF DISGUST (at least that's what Myspace says; Cat o' Nine Tails Media says: Shawnee Mission, KS). They play "Viking barbershop cyber-thrash" (both sources).
Their main themes are: "loneliness, isolation, despair, monkeys, robots, bees, horses, technology, entropy, the struggle of the working class, love, etc."
Get the picture?

"'The Giraffe in Paris' is my FAVORITE of our records. It's probably the most consistant collection of songs and is the one I usually play for people who are new to the band. It really has it all: Songs based on video games, songs about eating food, songs about horses, a 7+ minute rap song about making a huge sandwich, etc." (Danny Gibson)

This here is sheer madness - don't expect any conventional pop songs here - this stuff is DIFFERENT! Is it psychedelic? Well, I don't know. Maybe. But rather there are some traces of ZAPPA or TOM WAITS weirdness to be found (though musically most of this stuff here is quite different from F.Z.'s). Anyway: Accept no limits, I'd say!

Great stuff - strongly recommended! And great fun to listen to!
