The long-lost second LP from Art Jackson's Atrocity.
Recorded live in Germany, just months after Gout (the band's 1974 debut album for Columbia Records) was shelved, deemed unsellable by the label's corporate hierarchy. Turning down a January, 1975 invitation to support Miles Davis in Tokyo, The Atrocity decided instead to blitzkrieg Germany, finding a receptive audience for their incendiary style of improvisational jazz/noise/rock. First issued as an independent LP in St. Louis, circa 1975, Live In Europe is the only known live document of Art Jackson's Atrocity - though… all of the Atrocity's work was recorded live as it happened. Live In Europe, however, captures the frenetic energy that can only be found in a live setting, as artist and audience face off for an anticipatory clash of unknown expectations and improvisational possibilities. The enthusiastic response from the jazz-hungry Germans in both Düsseldorf and Berlin provides an exhilarating backdrop to The Atrocity's only overseas performances. Now, for the first time in 42 years, a new generation of listeners have the opportunity to hear the musical madness of a close-knit collective of anti-social misfits with no corporate goals. What might have been... had label indifference, drug abuse and multiple incarcerations not derailed one of the 1970's more unpredictable forebears of a futuristic musical dystopia few were willing to believe could possibly exist.

We're Late For Class - Presents The Act You've Known For All These Years (USA 2010)

If you haven't heard the latest WE'RE LATE FOR CLASS release (# 47) already, I can only advise you to visit their site (http://werelateforclass.blogspot.com/) quickly and download it as soon as possible (WLFC direct dl link).

The tracks on "The Act You've Known For All These Years" are a fantastic remix/"mash-up" of songs taken from the BEATLES' experimental solo albums. The funny thing is: Most of the time it doesn't sound like the BEATLES at all!

The fab four DID indeed release some of the greatest psychedelic artefacts of the late Sixties – a thing that many people often seem to forget. The tracks on this WLFC collection remind us of that fact, and this remix-album may easily be seen as one of their most interesting albums – with some really far out stuff on it, the one psychedelic masterpiece that they never recorded...

Some more free improvised stuff by our old friends WE'RE LATE FOR CLASS.

An outtake from "Transmissions Vol. 2: The LSD Sessions", called "Pregnant Tight Rope Walker In Santa Ana" is to be found on the 2nd Homemade-Lofi-Psych Sampler HLFP 02 "EMBRYO THOUGHTS".

That session is a litte short, but "... we thought each of these improvisational jams were about 30 minutes long." (WLFC) Hmmmm... I wonder why?!

"We're not sure how the idea hatched but we know the concept doesn't need much of a set up... it's a live space improvisation during a Jim Morrison seance. Why not!? It's cheaper than a living singer (classified ads, lodging, alcohol) and besides... you know how lead singers are to deal with. Since Bono isn't dead yet, we thought, who better than poet/philosopher/comedian Jim Morrison? And so you don't think this is just something we slapped together with old recordings and ProTools, listen for yourself as the engineer asks Jim for the "post-death stuff... the stuff without copyrights." For those that don't buy the premise, we've included a bonus, 14-minute instrumental mix (minus Jim) from when it was called "Message From Fornax" for a few hours. In the end, Jimbo was fun, even if he did sound like he was drunk in Paris. It went smoother than our Screamin' Jay Hawkins seance, anyway. CRANK THE VOLUME of the MP3 player and listen to it all. Recorded March 15-16, 2008."

This is a great collection of stoned improvised music and the best way to get introduced to this anarchic very creative unit of space invaders. Quote: "If you don't like this well-sequenced set of drug-induced space hymns, then you'll know to ignore the rest of our shit...".

This is simply amazing! A classic "What if... situation". The title says it all: "Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun" As Played By Vanilla Fudge Imitating Iron Butterfly When Fudge Were Forced To Open For Butterfly At The Fillmore West After In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida Went Top Ten". Ufff, well... That surely beats "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in A Cave And Grooving With A Pict".

Quote from the WE'RE LATE FOR CLASS Blog "You're about to hear Vanilla Fudge making fun of Iron Butterfly at the Fillmore in the late 60s by playing a Pink Floyd space song..." This piece starts out quite harmlessly with the repetitous main riff of the PF song and then suddenly finds itself in outer space for about 22 minutes before returning to the main theme...

WE'RE LATE FOR CLASS is an all improvisational college band (doing also some cut & paste) with over a dozen rotating members! And they are offering all of their work to download for free. Surely an interesting concept. I'm certainly eager to hear more!
