Anyone's Dreamcolour - It's So Cold Out Here In Space/FfM Bunker (1996/95) (GER.) RE-UP by request

ANYONE'S DREAMCOLOUR was the solo project of Mike S., bass player of CLOUD NINE (& THE VITAMIN C) (1983-1992), SISTER LUNA (1992/'93) and ORANGE (1993-'96). Lofi home recordings on 4 track exist from the years 1992 until 1999, all unreleased and only given away to friends.

 

The music of ANYONE'S DREAMCOLOUR in generell is less focused and more experimental than most of Mike's previous work with his former bands and heavily rooted in late 60s/early 70s Psychedelic Rock and experimental music. For example Girl in a Drop of water sounds somewhat like a crossing between COUNTRY JOE & THE FISH's Grace and the GRATEFUL DEAD's Rosemary, while Spacelab seems influenced by STEREOLAB and HAWKWIND.
Laughing Inside, written by P. Hergo, was a song by SISTER LUNA, that was never properly recorded; Girl in a Drop of Water was an old CLOUD NINE & THE VITAMIN C  song.
Electric Hippie Church is performed completely by Daniel P. Caesar, aka SUPER KING, Mike's band mate from ORANGE, and is based on the organ track of Eternal Hippies.

Anyone's Dreamcolour - Opel Opera - Dadaistische Oper in 3 Akten (GER. 1994) REPOST

When I started this little blog here, one of the first posts was "Rosemarine", an excerpt from the LOFI- PSYCH-DADA-OPERA "OPEL OPERA - Dadaistische Oper in 3 Akten" by ANYONE'S DREAMCOLOUR, the homemade lofi psychedelic project of Mike S. (from ORANGE and earlier CLOUD NINE & THE VITAMIN C – two bands most of the regular blog readers here will probably know by now). Postings of "IT'S SO COLD OUT HERE IN SPACE" (1996) and "ACID DAZE" (1992) followed recently. Today it's time for ANYONE'S DREAMCOLOUR's third major work.

So now here it is: the complete thing in all its glorious lofi madness. What you get to hear (that is: if you dare) is a strange sound collage of various styles, ranging from spacy blues rock to hard rock snippets, experimental kraut psychedelia mixed with typewriter and radio noises, dog snarling and saxophone improvisations. There also is a theme ("Opel Opera Main Theme") that is repeated in different variations (reminding of ZAPPA's "Uncle Meat" concept), one time for example played as a pseudo reggae (Jamacian Opel") and another time in a mean grunge parody, DINOSAUR-JR.-style ("Dinosaur Opel").
This "Opera music" uses indeed all kind of different sounds, often in collage format, using every usable source imaginable. The lyrics are a mix of bad english, german and sheer dadaist nonsense. All songs were recorded in Mike's living room (see front cover!) on anaolog-4-track recorder in the time span of November 1992 'til June 1994.
A word about the Opera ... "concept": Go and sell back the painted Opel car ("Opel" is a well known car series built in Germany) to the factory and throw the keyboard player out of the band... (Well, make of that whatever you will...)
(In order to keep the flow of the music and to avoid unwelcome splits between tracks, I joined together some of the songfragments, when converting the audio tracks into mp3s.)

"this is my last "solo-mad-lonely at home with EXTREMELY low budget-album" but although his hundreds of thousends of flaws, i think it sounds pretty nice. -- i'm a semi-professional (whatever means) musician playing alternative and tradional rock with my band in italy, but from time to time i can't help trying to find other ways to approach music/sound. -- by myself, i've always recorded improvisations. every single track and every word of this record are improvisations. -- instruments: acoustic guitar, 10euros and 10 years old and half broken audio equipment, mac. -- the album is, of course, in italian. i'm afraid it loses a lot of meaning if you don't understand it, but, who cares about meaning anyway."

I sadly don't speak Italian - so I've got no idea what MR. DEAN is singing about, but maybe that's not really that important (B.t.w.: Of course the artists featured on HLFP alone are responsible for lyrical and musical content of their work posted here!). Anyway: What surely comes through, is that this is very intense music - and that is pretty cool, if you want my opinion. Most of the songs are rather simple regarding the arrangements: mostly only one or two guitars - acoustic or electric - and a voice singing or screaming or moaning or whispering... But often there is something slightly weird going on, an unexpected twist or some unusual tuning or whatever - something that make those songs a little ... hmm, weird. Some kind of experimental lofi approach, and I really love that. Enjoy!

"I record under the name BLACK SAND. I've been recording my songs for a few years now using a Fostex 8 track and Cool Edit Pro. I'm influenced by a lot of English bands - Primal Scream, The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Stone Roses etc. - and a lot of sixties bands, The Creation, The Who, Small Faces etc. - Catch the Sun is the oldest song here, written 3 years ago, while How Does it Feeland Falling Down were written in the last couple of months. - I'm a big music fan and I've always written and recorded for the love of it. 60ies inspired psychedelic pop/rock that has everything fans of that genre will love: dreamy melodies, backward guitars, and a quite relaxed over all atmosphere...To my mind come indeed some songs by PRIMAL SCREEN. Recommended! I'd love to hear more from that guy!

Zero Nowhere - Floriculture EP + Bonus (PL 2010)

ZERO NOWHERE is a one-man home-recording project from Lublin, Poland.

The music is instrumental, rather dark, slow guitar driven psychedelic/post rock music with some stoner/doom elements.

One can definitely detect a slight late 60s psychedelic punk influence (e.g. the main guitar riff on Pinewoods suggests the STOOGES on valium, without Iggy), but this is far from being a retro 60s sound.

Quite interesting for fans of the darker side of psych/stoner music.

Sleeping Machine - 3 EPs (HUN 2008-2009)

SLEEPING MACHINE is in fact a one-man band, with some musician friends helping out, from Budapest, Hungary.

Most of the music could be described as "electronic" or "ambient", but there are some exceptions (e.g. "It Will Be Painful To Remember This" that is almost a bossa nova...).

Excellent late night listening music!

Q: Where exactly are you from?

A: Budapest, Hungary

Q: Do you want your real name mentioned? If so: What is your real name?

A: No, it's not important, I just go by "mez".

Q: How recorded?

A: I'll use anything. Some of it was recorded on my Fostex 4-track, some was put together on my PC, one song was recorded in a professional studio, during a break while recording with another band. As for instruments I'll use anything from guitars, analog synths to primitive PC music software. My only rule is that I never use samples, pre-written drum patterns, nothing, only original material on the recordings.

Q: When recorded?

A: Some of it was recorded a couple of years ago, some of it is from 2008-09, and there are brand new songs in the making as well.

Q: Who involved? Who played what?

A: It's basically a one-man band, but there are friends helping me out, guys from the other bands I play with, Hammer Of Gods and Domina Massive. There's a detailed description of who played what in the text file of "3 EPs". They also play in the Sleeping Machine live band.

A: Sleeping Machine exists since 2008, maybe 07?

I play the drums in two other bands. Hammer Of Gods is a noisy shoegaze/indie rock band, it's getting recognition in Hungary, once we opened for Six Organs Of Admittance for example.

And there's a band called Domina Massive, but it's less active than HoG, it used to be a postrock band in the early 00s, now it's lo-fi whatever I guess.

With some friends we also have a radio/dj/gig organizer team called "Lamantin", we have a weekly radio show, clubnights, and brought bands like Mount Eeerie, The Ruby Suns, Six Organs to Budapest.

Q: How'd you "label" your music? (I know... nobody wants to get labeled... bla bla bla...)

A: homemade, lo-fi, psych... - I couldn't think of better or more fitting! :)

Q: Influences?

A: There are tons of music that have influenced me as a person, but don't show up in my music, so they are irrelevant here i guess. If I think about Sleeping Machine, I'd say Young Marble Giants, The Flying Lizards, Boards Of Canada, Cluster, impLOG and My Bloody Valentine were influential. Not necessary their music, but their approach, attitude to creating music was influential. With this logic I could even list the original Alice Cooper Group, they had amazing ideas.

Crazy Bill's Pool Supplies - Takedown (AUSTRALIA 2010)

CRAZY BILL'S POOL SUPPLIES (CBPS) is a home-recording one-man project from Melbourne, Australia.

Most of the tracks are rather raw, almost improvised sketches. The vocals are not always intelligible and the drums sometimes sound more like an afterthought, but so what.

I really like that stuff: the fuzzy guitar, the strange somnolent voice, the overall 80's indie/neo-psych atmosphere!

Strongly recommended!

A: I'm known to most as the B-Train.

Q: How recorded?

A: With a shitty bottom of the line audio interface, a cheap vocal mic and some spare time. Pretty much all of the songs were written and recorded in an hour or two, heaps of the tracks were first take and a lot of the vocals were just sung (I use that term loosely) ad lib. I like the natural sorta instinctive melody you get in first takes. If it's not fully fucked up I normally just leave it. Most of the tracks are dirty and I like that.

A: Just material I've recorded over the past year, for some of the songs I didn't actually own an electric guitar at the time, so I experimented with some mic'd acoustic through a fuzz pedal, I feel I achieved some... honest results there.

A: I started playing guitar about 3-4 years ago, and after the first month was when I realized I enjoyed writing riffs and the like much more than just playing other stuff.

The Symbolick Jews - American Masters Volume 3 (USA 2010)

THE SYMBOLICK JEWS' music could best be described as homemade experimental/psychedelic rock music somewhere between SUICIDE, PERE UBU and LOU REED.

THE SYMBOLICK JEWS are an ever changing line up that more or less revolve around Adam Healton and Brian Davy. They have already self-released quite a couple of recordings and have a new one out, called "Can I Trust You?", that is more electronic sounding, a little bit less experimental and less lofi than American Masters Volume 3, posted here.

Q: Where exactly are you from?


A: We are from San Francisco.

These musicians appear in and out of the Sym Jews recordings, our current live line-up is Me, Adam, on bass and vocals, Brian on E drums and electronics, and David Berends on Guitar and vocals.


Q: How recorded?


A: I record on a Yamaha MT50 4 track tape recorder for most of the albums besides Confession Time. I typically play bass and drum machine on tracks 1 & 2, record the other guy on 3, then go over over dubs and fill in track 4 with whoever im recording with.


We're working on a new album recorded in our living room and a studio called Can I Trust You which will feature almost everyone who has appeared on our previous releases.


Q: Any previous bands worth mentioning?


I used to be in the band Retarded Muppit Farm which self released over 14 albums and will soon be made available for download, though you can download our last album on amazon. The band was me and Matt Conklin on all the instruments and we toured singing over backing tracks.


David Berends plays bass in the band Rangers.


Brians plays drums in the metal band, Total Eclipse.


Jasper is the frontman of the Myonics.


Q: Influences? How'd you "label" your music?


A: Our band is influenced by reggae dub, psycadelia, Flipper, and Lou Reed. We play Rock N Roll music. 
We all like the band Pere Ubu and Charles Mingus.


Q: Anything that you think is interesting, that you'd like to inform the blog readers about...


We plan to release a lot of albums as we are constantly writing new songs and gaining and losing new members. Though we fiddle with electronic recording formats, our songs generally began as our four track experiments and then are tediously recreated into a live-friendly version that usually sounds at least a little like the recorded version. With an ever changing cast and a growing amount of material to choose from, our live sets have been drastically different for each show.
