ZERO NOWHERE is a one-man home-recording project from Lublin, Poland.

The music is instrumental, rather dark, slow guitar driven psychedelic/post rock music with some stoner/doom elements.

One can definitely detect a slight late 60s psychedelic punk influence (e.g. the main guitar riff on Pinewoods suggests the STOOGES on valium, without Iggy), but this is far from being a retro 60s sound.

Quite interesting for fans of the darker side of psych/stoner music.

According to Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/orchestraofukog) THE NATIONAL ORCHESTRA OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GOATS is from Italy (or South Tyrol?).

Don't know if that info is correct. There isn't much info around for those strange guys. Anyway, their sound is described as "symphonic grind pop", and I think If you like bands as diverse as DREAM THEATER, PINK FLOYD or even VOIVOD you might actually like them and should give it a try.

Their music is very well produced and the playing is excellent.

They have a second album out now, also for free download that is similar in style, The Three Walls of Kolepta, again kind of a prog-metal concept mini album. Check it out on their bandcamp site below.

"Kid's Garden debuted with the album "Further" in 2007 on the website "George De Large's Music To Take Drugs To" blog (now defunct).

It was given away for free and generated a relatively large number of listeners on Last FM (http://www.last.fm/music/Kid's%2520Garden)

Since then there was only one other song ("Lord, Amen" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xw1mzcTT10) released with very little distribution.

Last month we announced we played the first show ever as a band after 4 years, and announced a preorder for an upcoming 12" vinyl EP to be released this summer.

The preorder was successful, generating nearly $500 (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1471123704/kids-garden-mirror-kisses-split-album-on-vinyl), which is half of the total cost of printing.

The record (entitled 'Light Hearted') is being pressed as we speak, and will be coming out soon. To ease some of the anticipation for this long-time-coming release,

Whenever members of the still-highly-prolific German Krautrock legend FAUST send out an invite, it’s about structures and musical boundaries to be blown up - and about expanding music into the domain of the gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art).

On may 25, Zappi W. Diermaier, founding member of Faust, will present sound recordings by congenial artists, mainly chosing material that is not released yet. Additionally, live-sets will be performed by Faust, by/with atelierTheremin and with help from organist Michi Wehmeyer of Embryo and Stahlband.

Designing the visual space on this event are Sigrun Drapatz (light installation) and Vadim Levin (VJ).

Here is some interesting electronic lo-fi experimental music by ELVIS BORDELLO, a one-man project from SERBIA. If you like the sound of analog synthies you may want to check this one out.

Q: Where exactly are you from?

A: Currently living in Krusevac, kinda of a small town in central Serbia (ex-Serbia and Montenegro, ex-Yugoslavia, ex-whatever) but hopefully moving to Belgrade in couple of months 

Q: Do you want your real name mentioned?

A: My real name is Ivan Spasic. The name of the ‘band’ – Elvis Bordello, is a mix of Elvis Presley and Gogol Bordello although I really hate Gogol Bordello and regarding Elvis I’ll just use Laurie Andersons quote - I have never been one that hoped Elvis is still hanging around somewhere, hiding, but I will probably always expect to see Andy (Kaufman) reappear, someday.

 Q: How recorded?

A: All the tracks recorded on my hard drive using my shitty integrated sound card. How lo-fi can you get?

 Q: When recorded?

A: Recorded during the summer of 2010. 

Q: Who involved? Who played what?

A: Well it’s a one man band. Elvis Bordello used all kinds of analog synths to please his delicate ear, hoping that pleasure he received is contagious.

A: The fundamental laws necessary for the mathematical treatment of a large part of physics and the whole of chemistry are thus completely known, and the difficulty lies only in the fact that application of these laws leads to equations that are too complex to be solved.

Some excellent, mostly instrumental psychedelic experimental music that somehow reminds me of RANGERS work (posted here) – yes, it's that good! – from a one man band project called HUMAN RESOURCES from Brooklyn, USA.

A: These are either straight live recordings or edits of live recordings, at home, on a small 7 channel mixer mixed down live to two channels straight into the computer

JACK JEFFERY's album Passage to Agadir is a record of many different moods. It contains a variety of musical styles, ranging from acoustic folk (Acoustic Mojo) to FLOYDian space psych (Interstellar Echoes on the Dark Side, Passage to Agadir), from TALKING HEADS-style Wave-funk (Build it Up) and ENO-like pop-psych (Whiskey Burns) to more electronic and/or ambient music (Overture for Galaxies and Stars, Where's the Ambient Jam?).

A fantastic "compelling musical journey" (Indie Music Digest) indeed!

The arrangements are always tasteful, playing and recording are excellent. I especially like the occasional Gilmour-like guitar playing (Being Myself, Mind Horizon ...)

A: The "Passage to Agadir" album was recorded in my home studio using the following gear: Martin HD-28 acoustic guitar, Epiphone Les Paul electric guitar, Marshall amp, Roland SH-201 synthesizer, Studio Projects B-1 large diaphragm condenser microphones, Shure SM-57 dynamic microphones, Adobe Audition 3.0 (digital audio workstation).

Q: When recorded?

A: At various times from 2006 to 2010. The title track "Passage to Agadir," for example, was recorded in early 2006, but "I Will Be There For You" (also on the album) was recorded in mid-2010.

Q: Who involved? Who played what?

A: This was a solo project in every sense of the word. I played every instrument, sang the vocals, and programmed some synthesizer, percussion, and special effects. I also produced and mastered the album, and designed the artwork for the CD itself.

Q: Any more releases?

A: Not yet, but am working on material for my next album. Hard to say when it will be released since still early in the process of writing songs.

A: Started recording in 2006, but have been playing music for over 20 years.

Broderick Young - Dysfunctionally Yours (USA 2010)

In February 2009 I posted BRODERICK YOUNG's first solo album Florescent Light Fortina on HLFP (see here), NOUGATS followed March last year (see there) – and here is his latest release, Dysfunctionally Yours, recorded Winter 2010. Another very fine album – again, what strikes me most is Broderick's voice, reminding me of a young, charming LOU REED (especially in his VELVET UNDERGROUND time and early solo stuff). Enjoy!

"This one was sort of weird to do. Usually I like to write a song then record it and keep on doing that until I have enough for an album, but this time I wrote the songs, did a demo, revised the hell out of them, practiced, then recorded. Chris Daily and I recorded the rhythm guitar and drums on a tape 4 track then transferred those tracks to a digital 8 track. The tracks recorded there were saved on a computer for further mixing with pro tools and logic. It's pretty crazy but everything sounds clearer than it did on some of my other albums. "Thomas Ankersmit is a 30+ year old saxophonist, electronic musician and installation artist born and raised in the Netherlands and now primarily based in Berlin who combines abstract, intensely focused saxophone playing with hyper-kinetic analogue synth and computer improvisation. He also creates installation pieces that use sound, infrasound and "modifications to the acoustic characters of spaces" that disrupt the viewer/listener's perception of the exhibition space and their presence within it. He frequently works together with New York minimalist Phill Niblock and Sicilian electroacoustic improviser Valerio Tricoli, and other collaborators, mostly for live performances, have included Tony Conrad, Maryanne Amacher, Jim O'Rourke, Kevin Drumm and Borbetomagus."

Q: Where exactly are you from?

A: I was born and raised in Leiden, The Netherlands. I've mostly been based in Berlin since 2000.

Q: Since when are you into playing music?

A: I got started fairly late. I wasn't particularly interested in music or playing an instrument as a kid. My first experiments started when I was 16: messing around with a guitar and an amp my dad had built when he was a teenager, as well as primitive "circuit bending" on electric appliances I found at this place where people would bring their old belongings and they'd sell them to raise money for charities. The Humana of The Netherlands, I guess.

Q: How'd you "label" your music?

A: I don't, basically. I leave that to others. It's been called noise, or glitch, or minimalism or even free jazz and many other things. I doesn't really make any difference to me. I like the term "noise music" in the sense that it's music made out of noises and not whatever music is normally made out of. But "noise music" as a genre name usually means stuff that's more consistently full-on loud and abrasive and structure-less.

Q: Any previous bands or projects that you've been involved in worth mentioning?

A: I've never been in a band. My first music was basically just a more primitive version of what I do now: messing around with electronics, and the saxophone after a year or two as well. When I started playing saxophone I pretty much had in mind what I do now actually. I've never played jazz or rock or anything like that. There weren't really any projects or groups that I was part of and then quit or something like that.

Q: How many records did you already release? Please list them in chronological order. Where can people buy them?

A: I've largely stayed away from making records. This is basically it (quoting from my website):

Q: How do work, when playing live? How much is indeed improvised on the spot and how much is sampled?

A: It depends. With solo shows I usually know how I want to begin and roughly how I'll end, but maybe not how to get there. When playing with others I basically don't determine anything in advance. My electronic stuff is about half real-time analogue synthesis, and about half pre-recorded sound fragments of the same analogue synthesizer, spit out by the computer. I've also been doing some all-analogue shows with just the synthesizer and a Walkman recently. People often ask if I built the synthesizer myself, but it was made by a company called Serge/Sound Transform Systems in the US. I've only made some additional boxes and modifications myself. Mostly things for mixing and switching between different signals more easily, and to hack into the guts of the instrument sometimes without breaking it open.

Q: What was your favourite place to perform?

A: Just in terms of how the music sounded in the venue: Dampfzentrale Bern, the Bimhuis in Amsterdam and Berghain in Berlin come to mind. More generally I like Budapest, Riga and Belgrade a lot. Also the dome-shaped abandoned hydroplane hangar in Tallinn was exciting, where there's this long sequence of very clear echos coming from all around, but basically no diffuse reverb. So the sound is at the same time very clear but also layers on top of itself in this cascade of echos that moves through the space in different patterns, depending on where you stand. Q: You have been into making music for quite some time. Why did it take so long until you decided to record a "proper" studio album?

A: I was just never that excited about the idea of making a CD. And I wasn't sure enough of the music to "fix" it onto a CD. I'm also kind of a minimalist when it comes to buying stuff, so I'm probably a little hesitant to put more products into the world. Now that I have two CD's out though (as of April 2011) I'm over my initial hesitation a bit. I have to say that both labels, Touch/Ash as well as PAN have been really great to work with. I had expected the whole process to be much more complicated than it ended up being.

Q: How and where do you record your album?

A: There's "Live in Utrecht", which is a live gig from Utrecht in the Netherlands, obviously. The sound technician recorded it at a concert series called Rumor Festival. He just happened to give me a copy of it, and Mike Harding who runs Touch and Ash International asked for an example of what I do so I gave him this. I never intended to release it, that was his idea. I'm happy it happened though.

My first studio CD, "Forma II", the collaboration with Valerio Tricoli I mentioned earlier, was just released by PAN records who are based in Berlin. It's run by a musician called Bill Kouligas, or Family Battle Snake. That's a collection of electroacoustic pieces made in our studios in Berlin. Most of the source material is analogue electronics (and saxophone on the last piece) but it involved a lot of digital and analogue re-construction.

Q: Could you tell us a few words about the 2 tracks, that are available here and on your webside for free download?

A: The electronic track is an earlier version of the first track on Forma II, so that's together with Valerio. My favorite track on the record. It's a big pile-up of analogue synth and metallic scraping that Valerio took apart and put back together. A lot of the material was sped-up on tape machines and on the computer, so it has a very abrasive, urgent character.

The other track is the Touch Radio release I mentioned before, which is kind of a souvenir of a solo saxophone performance in that hangar in Tallinn. All the echo on the recording is acoustic: there's no delay pedals or amplification involved, just acoustic saxophone in that space.

Q: What are your main musical influences?

A: Evan Parker, Tamio Shiraishi, Borbetomagus, John Wall, Bernard Parmegiani, Alvin Lucier. For example.

Q: Favourite band/musician at the moment?

A: Le Quan Ninh, Tshetsha Boys.

Q: What was the first record that really impressed you?

A: A Hörspiel LP of Disney's The Aristocats is probably my first vivid memory of listening to a record. In experimental music, Machine Gun by Peter Brötzmann probably.

Q: Website?

A: I've never had a website until recently, but now there's www.thomasankersmit.net that Touch offered to make for me. So thanks to them.

A: I live & work in Melbourne, Australia. However, I spent the first 25 years of my life not far from Glasgow, Scotland.

- Do you want your real name mentioned? If so: What is your real name?

A: Yeah im Steven Harran

- How recorded?

A: I recorded & produced all the music, art & video, 2007-2009 at home and at work sometimes. Apple computers, Logic, Reason, Audacity, Firefox, Wiretap, Adobe.

- Since when does this project exist/are you into music?

A: I was into clubs, shows, raves, record shops...all that. I constantly thought about music and producing music. I was in bands, DJing, making demos and mix tapes, artwork. I sat in with a producer (KMC) and watched the production and engineering in a studio. That was back in 95, a long time ago. Synths, samplers, drum machines, sequencers etc. The album is only something ive been able to realise now with new technology.

- Any more releases? Any "official" releases?

A: I appeared as YOUNG FLEETO on the TWOISM compilations, FSOL Electric Brain Storm comps and have mixed some trips at PHUTURELABS.com

A: Its electronic, with psychedelicosmikorganic feel. The label descibes it as electric space music.

A: All the obvious ones, but individuals who create there own environment/ headspace through music, art, visuals.

A: The album name HEGIRA means a flight to escape from danger. Its my life growing up in a scottish new town.

My eventual departure, a journey...-transmigration-migration to a new horizon and land stirred up these positive & negative memories...people & places, times & spaces.

Being in melbourne made it easy to forget about genres and scenes and make music that comes from the IMAGINATION and doesnt conform to any trends or demands. Characterised by INFLUENCES be it pictures, books, films, art, nature, technology, sounds, environments. Its dedicated to my wife & son.

- The last five records you bought?

A: Rangers Suburban Tours- Such positive feelings of nostalgia, cant stop listening to it.

Madlib Medicine Show- outer space, other world beatmaker.

Harmonia Live 1974- there tracks are constantly building and building. What all those bands did was magical.

Autechre Move of Ten, im inclined to listen to older AE, but i saw them again live recently and it blew me away.

"I am a one-man band project and reside in Lancaster, Pennyslvania. - I record using cassette tape players, boom boxes, broken microphones and digital mp3 recorders - I often record outside for ambience, and then mix it down on a tascam digital eight track in my basement, Malfangled Dog studios.

"June" was recorded during the first five months of 2010. I play all sounds and instruments myself. I use some homemade instruments and a toy guitar on several tracks of June, which is my fourth release:

My previous releases are: "Catching Night Before Dawn" - released in 2008 as both a limited (run of 50 - sold out) hand-packaged cd/art made from recycled soda and beer packaging and a digital release; in fall of 2009 "Horseheads/Backroads" and "Rise and Rust" were both digital only releases. All digital releases were offered free. I traded art, cash and music for the handmade physical release.

Olds Sleeper music might fit in the "alt-folk" "fringe-folk-country" "noise" "singer-songwriter" and "fuct" categories. My music is influenced mostly by the weather/seasons and the continued calamity of life. My heroes are townes van zandt, jeff magnum, hasil adkins, john prine, jack Kerouac, J.J. cale, Cormac McCarthy, son house and lightning hopkins."

You'll find some excellent slide guitar playing on "June" and some great arrangements aswell as some fine distorted vocals on some tracks!

Owsley Stanley (born Augustus Owsley Stanley III), notorious 1960′s LSD chemist and the original Grateful Dead sound engineer died after an automobile accident in Australia on March 13, 2011, aged 76.

Stanley helped inspire such songs as Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze,” the Grateful Dead’s “Alice D. Millionaire,” Jefferson Airplane’s “Bear Melt”, Frank Zappa’s “Who Needs the Peace Corps?” and even Steely Dan’s “Kid Charlemagne.”

Between 1965 and 1967, Stanley produced more than 1.25 million doses of LSD—a catalyst for the emergence of the hippie movement during the Summer of Love in the Haight-Ashbury area,^[1] which one historian of that movement, Charles Perry, has described as "one big LSD party." SZBUTÄ SORÖH is a Brazilian one-man experimental/noise music project. So guys please notice: THIS ISN'T ROCK MUSIC!

The man behind these amazing recordings from 2007 is SAMUEL MACEDO from Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Samuel uses a variety of different instruments and many different sources for his music, ranging from bamboo flutes, acoustic and electric guitars to field recordings, that afterwards are manipulated through computer processings.

The music generated that way is quite a rewarding adventure, taking the suprised listener through all kinds of different moods and atmospheres. Listening on headphones is recommended!

An exiting, heavily disturbing musical journey by SZBUTÄ SORÖH (Samuel Macedo), who is based in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Probably even more experimental than his works from 2007 (see here).

Those three untitled tracks here are true homemade recordings from 03 till 07-2008. What exactly is going on is obscure and hard to realize, because Samuel creates a sense of uneasiness and distance by abstracting his source material beyond recognition. This surely isn't easy listening!

CATASTO ELETTRICO is an improvisational Italian band, that retired from playing live to concentrate on recording improvised sessions very much in a jazzy progressive style (with some indie influences). This session here, "GAS", reminds me a little bit of TORTOISE in some aspects and very much of the early SOFT MACHINE (just listen to that fuzz bass!), which is meant as a BIG compliment of course.

This Love Is Deadly - Misery (EP) (GER. 2010)

THIS LOVE IS DEADLY is a much promising band from Berlin, Germany, that is heavily influenced by shoegazing gods MY BLOODY VALENTINE (aswell as, say DINOSAUR JR.) and also reminds me – especially regarding Lisa's vocals – of PATTI SMITH and PJ HARVEY.

Misery is their first EP. And it is excellent!

Q: Do you want your real names mentioned? If so: What are your real names?

Louis: Sure! Our names are Lisa & Louis. Our drummer wants to be called H.D.

Q: Who involved? Who played what?

Louis: Lisa on bass and vocals, me on guitar and vocals and H.D. on drums.

Q: Where exactly are you from?

Lisa: I was born in Seoul, Korea and grew up all over the world.

Louis: I originate from Italy. H.D. grew up on a farm near the border to Holland.

Q: Since when are you into recording music?

Lisa : I guess, like probably every ambitous young musician, who starts to write own songs, we all had our first dilettante tries at recording music in our teen years on old-school cassette players. I remember, at one point having this really shitty and defect head phone set that my father'd given to me because he had no use for it, and it came together with this computer program to record voice samples and stuff like that. I recall how excited I was about its overdub option, which allowed you to record over your first take. That's how I did my vocal harmonies, after having recorded the guitar together with the lead vocals. The program even had a special effects section, enabling you to reverse a take...it felt like heaven to me back then! However, about five years ago Louis and I started to build up a home studio where the first tlid recordings were recorded. Everything was still very amateurish and low-fi, it still is actually! We sort of made a virtue out of necessity and have adopted this style to our overall band sound. But it was a great way to gain experience and since then especially Louis has become quite skilled at the art of recording, mixing and producing.

Q: Any previous bands/side projects that you've been involved in worth mentioning?

Louis: I played with a band called the amber light before, H.D. played with EL*KE and Lisa's currently got a solo project under the name Amour Fou.

Q: How'd you "label" your music?

Louis: I dunno, maybe Alternative, Psychedelic, Pop, Punk, Grunge...

Lisa: I always find it difficult to categorize ones own music... Motor.de recently wrote a review about us describing our music with german words such as "Edelgrunge" and "Rauschrock", which sort of appealed to us.

Q: What's your favourite track on this ep? Why?

Louis: We love 'em all equally. I think Midiverb stands out for it's uniqueness in terms of sound.

Q: How do you write your songs? What comes first, words or music?

Louis: Music always comes first then we write the lyrics. We write mostly on acoustic guitars.

Lisa: Yeah, when the music and the idea of a song is there, we play around with a melody...sometimes the melody inspires the lyrics...certainly the feeling of the song does. Rarely do we have a distinct idea of what exactly the lyrics should express... it's more a mood, a general feeling. The first idea of lyrics are mostly improvised and we often experiment with the phonetics of words, the sound of a word can be very inspiring. It's sort of an unconscious process, a stream-of-consciousness kind of thing. We might not understand it while in the process of creation, and often it only makes sense after completion.

Q: What’s the best song you’ve ever written?

Louis: I believe it's Wasting Time.

Q: Favourite line from a song you've written?

Lisa: Hm...I don't know. Our lyrics can be quite trivial and insignificant. If a song of ours carries a message, I believe it's more of an emotional than an intellectual nature. Perhaps that is the reason why our vocals are more often than not very low in the mix. Due to the fact that we mostly utilize the voices as instruments, it's more important to us that the melody or the way something is sung carries a certain feeling and thus contributes to the whole atmosphere of a song.

Q: How do you record your albums?

Louis: Mostly we record demos at home first on which the final recordings are based upon. Then we go into a studio and overdub the drums, preferably on tape.. We end up using a lot of tracks from the demos because of their feel. It's always a mix between lo-fi and hi-end.

Q: Any plans for live gigs?

Louis: We wanna play live as much as possible.

Q: What are your main musical influences? Do I hear a MY BLOODY VALENTINE influence or is that by chance?

Louis: Sure, MBV is a key-influence. But so is much of the music I think they were also influenced by, like sonic youth, dinosaur jr. the velvet underground, ramones, stooges, jesus and mary chain, hendrix, neil young...etc.

Q: Favourite band at the moment?

Lisa: Scott Walker is much adored at present.

Louis: I agree, I might have said Neil Young a few weeks ago. His latest record is a masterpiece.

Q: What was the first record that really blew your mind?

Noise/experimental/drone band EPHEMEROL from Frankfurt, GER, should be no stranger to you blog readers, since I already posted quite some of their stuff on HLFP (see link below).

Interview with Maxim Engl via email:

Q: How was it like to play the Waggon?

A: Playing at the Waggon was really an experience: The place is not only called Waggon, it IS an old waggon. The room is small and completely made out of wood. - The atmosphere on this evening was truly magic, more a journey than a rock concert. The people were so much into the music, they forgot to buy drinks! Not good for the purse, but good for the biography! It reminds me on what rock history tells about early VANILLA FUDGE concerts, so it was quite an honour to go home with empty pockets.

Q: Who involved? Who played what?

A: Peter Prochir: Drums

Q: Where exactly are you from?

A: Frankfurt, Germany.

Q: Since when are you into recording music?

A: The band was founded in the end of 2003 and started recording in early 2005.

Q: Any previous bands/side projects that you've been involved in worth mentioning?

A: Time for namedropping! – Our most famous band member is Peter. In the early 80ies he played with Heiner Goebbels, Alfred Harth and Christoph Anders in the avant/jazz/punk band CASSIBER. When he decided to leave because of other musical aims, he was replaced by former HENRY COW drummer Chris Cutler. – In 1989 Peter formed the industrial band SIELWOLF who worked with Mick Harris (NAPALM DEATH, SCORN, PAINKILLER) and with Carlos Peron (YELLO). – Roger played in the 90ies with house DJ C-Rock and jazz singer Claire Dietrich in DIET. – Me, myself & I played with THE JANITORS OF LUNACY, ORANGE, and PAN AMP. Q: How'd you "label" your music?

A: Noise/Drone/Experimental. – Fact is, I am responsible for the sound design and the musical direction of ephemeroL. ephemeroL came out of the ashes of PAN AMP. The sound design was the same: heavy guitar, heavy bass, heavy drums, but I was not longer interested in writing MOTORPSYCHO-influenced indie rock songs. I thought that the band should have more strange and psychedelic elements that should not be based on 60ies and 70ies rock. – When Peter joined the band, we had two band members with an industrial background. So I thought it was more interesting to have an open, modern concept that combines post rock, avantgarde, noise and drone. I liked the idea of writing tracks, but we didn't want to become one of the thousands of MOGWAI clones that drown in all-too-sweet melodies. The balance of melody and harshness is an important factor in our music.

Q: How do you "write" your songs? How much is arranged, how much improvised?

A: For ephemeroL there are two ways to structure music:

1) A tune comes out of an idea or an improvisation during practice. In a second step we try to find out how much arrangement the material needs to satisfy the band.

2) I come up with complete tunes and guitar arrangements. Then we arrange the rest (bass, drums, maybe soundscapes and samples).

Q: How do you record your albums?

A: For the first album, we had complete tunes that we recorded in Ike Anger's practice room in Frankfurt. Vocals, overdubs, mix and mastering happened at his studio. – The second album "Plenk!" was recorded only by me. I came with nothing to Ike's studio and went out 7 weeks later with lots of guitar and organ tracks. I needed two weeks more for sorting out and for edit instructions, then Ike mixed and mastered the album. – The third album, which will be released in 2011, was recorded at Klanghaus studio in Frankfurt by Andi Kunze, but will be mixed and mastered at Aleph studio in Seattle by Randall Dunn and Mell Dettmer, a dream team in sound (SUNN O))), EARTH, ASVA, SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE, GRAILS, EAGLE TWIN etc.).

Q: What are the future plans for ephemeroL?

A: The master plan is to find a proper record label for our new album.

Q: What are your main musical influences?

A: The real influences lead back to the basics, the past of us three. They don't reflect directly what we're doing now. – Peter is influenced by: Mark Stewart/Swans/Brian Eno/Steve Reich/Black Sabbath – Roger is influenced by: Abba/Beatles/Black Sabbath – I am Influenced by: Black Flag/Hüsker Dü/Black Sabbath/Motorpsycho/Robert Fripp/Keith Levene (PIL)/Derek Bailey/Wolfgang Spelmans (DAF)/Denis D'Amour (Voivod)/Charlemagne Palestine.

Q: Favourite band at the moment?

A: My favourite band for the last years is BORIS from Tokyo, although I don't like any of their 2010 releases.

Trish Keenan (Broadcast) R.I.P. Jan. 14 2011

"Saddest news of the year so far has got to be the passing of Trish Keenan, the singer from BROADCAST, who died earlier today (= January 14 2011, m-f) after a two-week bout with pneumonia... An official statement was released by her bandmates on the WARP RECORDS website and word spread fast over the internet, as music blogs and entertainment news sites alike, all acknowledged what a talented singer this woman was and how very much her unique style would be missed...

I first fell in love with this woman's voice back in 1997, after hearing the impressive debut release by BROADCAST entitled WORK AND NON WORK... Around that time, there were great bands likeSTEREOLAB and KOMEDA doing the space-age pop thing and quite successfully I might add... But it would be the charming storybook sounds of childlike wonderment inhabiting this particular album by BROADCAST, that ultimately sealed the deal for me and Keenan's vocals were primarily to blame... Their song "We've Got Time" has always been a favorite of mine and it's really a heartbreaking shame that Trish Keenan's "time" had to end so suddenly...

This is truly a monumental loss for the world of music... R.I.P. my dear..." (UncleDiss)

Broadcast were one of my favourite bands in the last years, and I was lucky enough to see the band perform live once – it was unbelievable great. I even had a chance to talk with the band after the performance and they seemed to be really beautiful people.

LOOPS INC. is kind of a lo-fi noise/psychedelic /ambient project.

Q: Where exactly are you from?

A: I was raised in South Eastern Massachusetts. Been in San Francisco since 93.

Q: What is your real name?

A: Jason Alexander Lee is the official name on my government file. My friends call me J. or Jay. My mom calls me Jason. Sometimes I call myself Captain J. Rab.

Q: How recorded?

A: I always try and have a dictaphone cassette recorder on me just in case there's something happening. Besides that I used a 4 track cassette, regular cassette deck, Pro Tools, Garage Band. I recorded the raw material onto 30 second outgoing message loop tapes from an 80's Record-a-Call answering machine, manipulated, edited and layered them up on Pro Tools.

Q: When recorded?

A: Loops Inc. was recorded between 07 and 10. My girlfriend Marina Lazzara and I had a baby (Maizie) in 07 so I've primarily been a baby farmer since then. I also have lots of really creative but spaced out and/or busy friends I wanted to be involved so I kept extending the deadline. I'm still getting stuff from people even though it's done.

Q: Who involved? Who played what?

A: Most people involved are from San Francisco except where noted:

It's up to the listener to decide who's playing what. In some cases I don't even know. That would only take away from the mystique. - I could give a list of all the cool bands some of these people are in or who does cool art or whatever, but I won't. People usually want a quick read.

Q: Any more releases? Any "official" releases? Discografia?

A: Eventually my entire catalog will all be up on my archive page for free. I don't believe in CDs, don't have enough money to put out records. People at my level don't make money off recordings, anyhow. I'm not a business person and if I was it wouldn't be selling music, It'd probably be selling black holes.

- I've got a 12" full length vinyl record from Aerosol Species sitting around if anyone's interested and some singles, too. I put it out myself in 2000. Static Faction put out some singles and an LP, HIndi Rock Punk Raga around 97-98. It's out of print. I bought a copy at Ameoba a couple years ago for $4.00 so it's floating around out there somewhere.

Q: Since when does this project exist? What's the idea behind Loops Inc.?

A: What I call Aboriginal Compilations are cut up noise experimental recordings with whoever may be around at the time. I started doing that around 95-96. Loops Inc. is basically one of those.

I'll always try and get as many people involved in this kind of project for the random energy factor.

I've collaborated with many of these cats before, but this is the most people I've gotten together so far. It was like having an orchestra, kinda. My theory going into Loops Inc. was to get 30 second compositions from my friends, layer them up and give the illusion of songs.

Q: Any previous bands worth mentioning?

A: My band the Rabbles is putting out an 18 song batch of music called Dabble and I'm putting out a solo LP called the J.Lee Ching on a friend of mine's label. - My 90's rock bands were Static Faction, NoiseStar and Aerosol Species. There's several recordings by those groups worth checking out if one has the time. - There are several Aboriginal Records compilations which were put together cut up style and are pretty interesting if you're tripping hard enough, haha. - It's all going up on the archive page for free. http://public.me.com/jason_a_lee

Q: Influences?

A: Loops Inc. is a no budget everyman version of the Brian Eno Discreet Music LP's where he loops up a bunch of reel to reels and runs it through effects, so I had that in mind, but to take that and bring it down to the street level rather than some ivory tower recording studio.
